The treasure is hidden in places that are:
Publicly accessible – no special permissions required.
Safe to reach on foot – no climbing, swimming, or off-roading needed.
At least five kilometers away – from the homes, workplaces, or properties of the organizers or their families.

The Total Prize Pool is 289 one-ounce gold coins valued at approximately CAD$1,335,637, comprised as follows:
Grand Prize: 217 one-ounce gold coins (~CAD$1,000,000)
12 Monthly Bonus Prizes: 72 one-ounce gold coins total (6 coins or ~CAD$27,729 per prize)
The Grand Prize and each Bonus Prize will be located in one or more provinces or territories of Canada.

Each Bonus Prize will be associated with its own unique poem published on https://treasure.northernminer.com. Bonus Prize poems and clues will be released each month.

Subscribers to The Northern Miner and EarthLabs other media channels will have access to bonus clues on the day of their release and to a consolidation of the bonus clues. Non-subscribers may request a bonus clue by emailing treasure@northernminer.com on or after the day of the release of the bonus clue.
All Treasure Boxes are hidden within Canada. They will be physically accessible on foot and are located on public property. Participants will not require any special gear, digging tools, metal detectors, or similar equipment. Participants should dress appropriately for the environment and conditions. Participants must conduct their search in a safe, respectful, and non-commercial manner.
Participants are strictly prohibited from using heavy equipment, digging tools, or similar devices; metal detectors, where prohibited by law or regulation; or operating drones in restricted airspace or protected areas. Commercial searching operations are not permitted under any circumstances. This commercial search operations prohibition includes, but is not limited to, organized expeditions, paid tours, or any activity for commercial gain. Participants may not sell or distribute clues, maps, or other search-related materials.
Participants must not search while under the influence of alcohol, cannabis, or any substance that could impair judgment or reaction time. Reckless or dangerous searching behaviour is not permitted. This prohibition includes, but is not limited to, entering hazardous terrain, searching in extreme weather, failing to wear appropriate clothing or footwear, or engaging in any conduct that could damage property or the environment.
